BBC White City - Fire protection for broadcasting facilities
Fire Protection installed its unique Flamebar BW11 fire rated ductwork at BBC White City. The ductwork system runs throughout the BBC's Media Village, broadcast and administrative facilities.
The fire rated ductwork system provides smoke extract and ventilation services to the building's basement, as well as pressurisation facilities to the stair and lift areas.
At BBC White City, Fire Protection had to ensure that, even in the event of a fire, certain areas within the building would remain unaffected, allowing broadcasting and administrative functions to be maintained. Thus, the fire rated ductwork needed to work efficiently 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
This business-critical objective, to maintain the broadcasting facilities of this iconic organisation, meant close liaison was essential throughout the design process; between Architects Allies & Morrison, Consultants Buro Happold, Main Contractor BovisLendLease and sub-contractor Haden Young Ltd.
Flamebar BW11 exhibits outstanding performance when tested under furnace conditions. The system meets all relevant British Standards and is entirely suitable for situations where up to four hours fire protection is required.
Fire Protection Ltd also operates its own laboratory and fire test facilities. In addition to fire rated ductwork systems, the company has recently developed its portfolio of products to include ceiling fire barriers and fire stopping materials.
